His long professional singing career spanned an era of great change in musical performance. He was a world-renowned opera singer, a concert recitalist and a prolific recording artist. John McCormack is considered by many to be Ireland’s greatest ever singer. He was particularly popular in the USA as well as in his homeland and he received many distinguished honours and awards. In 1928, he received the title of Papal Count from Pope Pius XI in recognition of his work for Catholic charities.
